The HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) of 1997 states that employers can now contribute towards the premiums of employee Long Term Care insurance on the same tax-deductible basis as medical benefits.

Long term care covers assistance such as home health aid or nursing home residence fees required by the insured due to a physical or mental inability to live independently for an extended period of time.
